XISOPHURA
(Horse Shoe Crab)
ADDITIONAL VOTER INFORMATION

CHANGE
IS
OVERRATED
When she says she's been around a long time, she means it. Horseshoe crab fossils have been found in rock that is 445 millions years old. That’s almost half-a-billion years!

In all that time, she has hardly changed. How do we know? Because she looks almost identical to fossils from the Jurassic (dinosaur) period.

Her tail, or telson, looks like a stinger, but it’s not. She uses it for steering, or to flip herself over when she ends up on her back. Want a demonstration? She’s happy to flip-flop if it will win your vote.
