How do they manage to be so stunning? By snacking! They absorb and re-use the color, or pigment, in the food they eat, whether it be sponges, corals, or—yes—fellow slugs. How many other candidates can do that, eh?
They are hermaphrodites! This means they have both male AND female body parts.
Their latin name, Nudibranchia, means naked gills. And it’s true, they have no shell to cover the gills on their back. They spend their entire life fully exposed!
